Mid Devon District Council is seeking a full-time Business Support Officer to join the Street Scene (Waste and Recycling) team at Hitchcocks Business Park, Willand. The role requires organized, proactive individuals who can handle a range of administrative duties with strong IT skills and a professional telephone manner.
Key duties include acting as a specialist contact for the public, maintaining databases and reports, and supporting the Waste and Recycling Supervisors and Transport Manager.
We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Business Support Officer to join our Street Scene (Waste and Recycling team) at Hitchcocks Business Park, Willand.
We are looking for an efficient and organised candidate to work as part of a small administrative team within the service. The role provides different challenges and a wide spectrum of responsibilities within the service. This is a rewarding, essential and challenging post, and you will need excellent organisation and time management skills to maintain deadlines. The ideal candidate must have the ability to think on their feet, take their own initiative, be resilient and provide a structured professional service.
Candidates should have a good standard of education; have an NVQ 3 in Business and Administration or equivalent; with experience of customer care issues and working in an office environment. They should have a professional, and polite telephone manner, good organisational and interpersonal skills, and be able to communicate at all levels.
You will be expected to function as a member of the team providing a frontline service to staff and customers and can undertake a range of administration duties. Competence in the use of information technology (Microsoft Office) is essential along with the ability to learn new software related to the role.
As a Business Support Officer your duties will include but are not limited to:
1.To act as a specialised point of contact for members of the public, customers, businesses, other council departments, and stakeholders, aiming to resolve most enquiries at first point of contact. This includes dealing with customers who contact by telephone, in writing, e-mail, internally, externally, or online.
2.To maintain databases, spreadsheets, and filing systems (electronic and paper) and to provide accurate reports including statistical information as required. To record all transactions on supporting workflow programs as per procedures. To maintain a level of competence in the use of new technology and programs and to help develop new processes as required by the service
3.To support the Waste and Recycling Supervisors and assist with the daily workload.
4.Provide essential administrative support to the Transport Manager.
5.To arrange provision of all service area purchasing and delivery of goods. In-depth knowledge of supporting financial and procurement ordering systems, including internal stationery and specialist equipment supplies.
6.To work with other support services, such as Customer First and ICT, to provide smooth functioning of administration and support of the service.
