Job Specification for Technical Sales Engineer – Hitachi Industrial Equipment Systems Europe UK Branch. Unit 2 Turnoaks Business Park, Burley Close, Storforth Lane, Chesterfield, Derbyshire S40 2HA. Updated 26 June 2025. TelesisEagle Limited, part of the Telesis Technologies, Inc. group of companies, became part of the Hitachi Group in July 2022. In April 2025, we became the UK branch of Hitachi Industrial Equipment Systems Europe GmbH, with head office in Dusseldorf, Germany.
The job title will be Technical Sales Engineer. The person will report to the UK Sales Manager. The person should be based in England or Wales; location is flexible.
Responsibilities
- The current focus of the company is to sell the Telesis range of products, augmented by the possibility to sell Hitachi coding and marking machines.
- Travel extensively throughout the UK and Ireland, generally by driving but occasionally by plane or train. The job will include travel, so the person needs to be ready and willing to travel regularly, sometimes at short notice. This will include some overnight stays. The current annual estimated mileage is 30,000 miles per annum.
- Initial independent training will be given in the UK, supported by training from other Telesis and Hitachi locations.
- Have a full and clean driving licence, and no restriction on travel because of their passport.
Responsibilities and Desired Capabilities
- Be very self-motivated – willing to work hard and make all efforts to contribute to the success of the company. Be thoroughly reliable and disciplined in the way that they work.
- Have aptitude for machines and mechanical processes. Experience with CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machines) or CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Machines would be suitable relevant experience.
- Either have good existing sales skills or have the potential to learn these. In particular, this would include:
- The ability to do a good product demonstration.
- Negotiating skills, closing deals.
- Tracking opportunities and forecasting.
- Have or learn ability to analyse custom projects and work out how to progress these (for instance working with machine integrators).
- Have aptitude for IT – not necessarily to a high level but some basic skills are essential.
- Be organised, tidy and good with paperwork, systems and processes. Be a clear and effective communicator both verbally and by email, with good ability to follow up and ensure queries are fully resolved.
- Be willing to travel extensively throughout the UK and Ireland – generally by driving but occasionally by plane or train. The job will include travel so the person needs to be ready and willing to travel regularly, sometimes at short notice. This will include some overnight stays.
- Be sales orientated and focused on customer service.
- Be able to work well with other Telesis and Hitachi staff in the UK and Europe, while also concentrating on their own workload.
Product Focus and Training
- The Telesis range consists of dot peen, scribe and laser marking machines. The type of machines to be sold initially will depend upon experience. Over time, more types of machines could be added. Full training would be given in advance.
- The split of the territory will depend upon experience and location. Final decisions on leads will be made by the UK Sales Manager.
Qualifications

Compensation and Benefits
- The gross basic salary is estimated at £40,000 – £50,000 per annum, depending upon experience.
- A sales commission scheme will be in place which earns commission at an estimated rate of £10,000 per annum. For the first six months, this will be paid at a flat rate of at least £750 gross per month, payable the following month.
- Towards the end of six months, a commission scheme will be formalised. Details will depend on location and aptitudes.
- A company vehicle will be provided – private use permitted but not paid for. Also provided are a laptop and a mobile phone.
- Holiday allowance is 25 days per year, pro-rated in the first year.
- The option to join the company pension scheme. Employee contribution is currently 4% net (5% gross) of basic salary and employer contributions are currently 4% of basic salary. This will be adjusted as required by legislation.
