Overview

Biomedical Scientist Haematology & Transfusion

Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust | Full-time (37.5 hrs) | Rotational shifts (days, lates, nights, weekends)

Make a difference across a busy, friendly service delivering high-quality care to our communities. We’re looking for an enthusiastic, well-motivated Biomedical Scientist to join our Haematology & Transfusion team. You will work across Dewsbury and Pinderfields laboratories, with support as and when required at Pontefract.

Responsibilities
  • Perform a wide range of routine and specialist tests to HCPC standards.
  • Assess samples, interpret and authorise results, and act on anomalies.
  • Maintain quality and safety through strict QC checks, troubleshooting and equipment care.
  • Work independently during core and out-of-hours shifts to ensure timely patient care.
  • Train and support colleagues, students and ward staff carrying out testing.
  • Contribute to service improvement by assisting with new methods, equipment evaluation and stock control.
Who we’re looking for
  • Qualified route: IBMS-accredited degree and either HCPC registration or completion of the IBMS Registration Portfolio in Haematology and Transfusion Science.
  • Trainee route (if no suitable qualified applicants): IBMS-accredited degree or current apprenticeship leading to an IBMS-accredited degree within the next 2/3 years.
  • A positive, flexible team-player willing to participate in the rotational shift pattern (days, lates, nights, weekends) and to work across all three sites as service needs require.
