Job summary

GSL Education Hull Branch is recruiting Behaviour Support Assistants to work with young people in Hull schools. The role focuses on calm, supportive engagement to help students manage challenges and progress positively.

Ideal candidates will build trusting relationships, support emotional regulation and social skills, and work with staff to implement consistent strategies. DBS checks are required or you must be willing to apply.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people with behavioural, emotional, or social needs is desirable.
• Enhanced DBS check (UK) registered on the Update Service or willing to apply for one.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills with young people.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualised behavioural, emotional, and social support to students.
• Build positive, trusting relationships while maintaining clear boundaries.
• Assist with emotional regulation, communication, social skills, and positive behaviour strategies.
• Respond calmly to challenging situations using de-escalation approaches.
• Collaborate with teachers and support staff to implement consistent strategies and monitor progress.
• Encourage engagement in learning and promote confidence, independence and decision-making.
