Job summary

GSL Education Hull branch is seeking compassionate SEMH Support Assistants to work in schools across Hull. You will help pupils overcome barriers to learning, support emotional regulation, and build confidence and social skills under the guidance of teachers and pastoral teams.

The role involves one-to-one and small group support, development of positive behaviour strategies, and collaboration with SENCOs. DBS on update service or willingness to apply is required.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural, or additional needs is desirable.
  • Experience in a school, youth work, care, or similar setting is advantageous.
  • Qualifications in Education, Childcare, Psychology, Health & Social Care, or Youth Work are desirable but not essential.
  • Strong understanding of SEMH needs and positive behaviour support strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Enhanced DBS on update service or willingness to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students.
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, confidence, resilience, and social skills.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and promote engagement with learning.
  • Assist teachers with classroom activities and targeted interventions.
  • Support students in line with individual learning and behaviour plans.
  • Help manage challenging situations using positive and appropriate strategies.
  • Monitor pupil progress, behaviour and wellbeing, providing feedback to staff.
