Job summary

GM Performance Power Units is seeking a Battery Controls Engineer to join our ERS team in Concord, NC. You will develop and optimize embedded controls software for the HV battery management system and related components, implementing real-time control algorithms for protection, SOC, and SOH.

You will collaborate with cross-functional controls and electrical hardware teams, perform MiL/SiL/HiL testing, and contribute to a robust, compliant software ecosystem for Formula 1 powertrains.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Embedded Systems, or related field; or Bachelor's with 5+ years embedded software experience.
• Expertise in battery management systems and battery control algorithms (protection/derating, SOC, SOH).
• Familiarity with HV battery physics, high voltage networks, contactors, fuses, and interlock loops.
• Strong C/C++ programming skills and real-time OS experience; capable with handwritten and auto-generated code.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and maintain embedded software in C, C++, and real-time languages for HV battery systems.
• Implement sensor data acquisition, HAL, real-time comms, and diagnostics features.
• Collaborate with controls and hardware teams for cohesive system operation.
• Conduct MiL/SiL/HiL and trackside testing; perform verification and validation.
• Create requirements and unit tests; maintain clean, scalable code bases.
• Ensure adherence to software quality, safety, and regulatory standards for motorsport.
