Job summary

GM Performance Power Units is seeking a Battery Controls Engineer to join the ERS Team in Concord, NC. You will develop embedded software for the HV battery management system with real-time control algorithms and system diagnostics.

You will collaborate across controls and electrical hardware teams, perform MiL/SiL/HiL testing, and ensure compliance with industry standards for motorsport applications.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Embedded Systems, or related discipline; OR Bachelor's with 5+ years embedded software development.
• Expertise in battery management systems and battery control algorithms, such as protection/derating, state of charge, and state of health.
• Familiarity with high voltage systems and CAN networks.
• Strong proficiency in embedded C programming and real-time operating systems.
• Experience with multithreaded/multi-rate control systems.
• Experience with communication protocols: CAN, CAN FD, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, UART.
• Knowledge of software development tools, debugging and version control.
• Understanding of control theory for electronic systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and maintain embedded software in C, C++, and real-time languages for HV battery management systems and related components.
• Implement sensor data acquisition, hardware abstraction layers, real-time communication, and diagnostics features.
• Collaborate with controls and electrical hardware teams for cohesive system operation.
• Conduct debugging, verification, and validation including MiL, SiL, HiL and trackside testing.
• Create requirements and unit tests to build robust, scalable codebases.
• Adhere to software quality, safety, and regulatory standards for motorsport.
• Maintain technical documentation and contribute to continuous improvement.
