Job summary

GM Performance Power Units seeks a Battery Controls Engineer to develop and optimize embedded software for the HV battery management system in its ERS team based in Concord, NC. You will implement real-time control algorithms and collaborate with controls and hardware teams to ensure robust operation and diagnostics across the battery, SOC and SOH functions.

Role requires strong C/C++, RTOS experience, and familiarity with MiL/SiL/HiL testing, fault protection, and high-voltage safety.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Embedded Systems, or related discipline; OR Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of experience in embedded software development.
• Experience with battery management systems and battery control algorithms (protection/derating, SOC, SOH).
• Familiarity with HV battery physics, high voltage networks, and control theory.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and maintain embedded software in C/C++ for HV battery management systems and related components.
• Implement sensor data acquisition, hardware abstraction layers, real-time comms, and diagnostics.
• Collaborate with controls and hardware teams; perform MiL/SiL/HiL and trackside testing; write requirements and unit tests.
• Adhere to safety/regulatory standards for motorsport. Maintain documentation and drive process improvements.
