Job summary

GM Performance Power Units is seeking a Battery Controls Engineer to join the ERS team in Concord, NC. You will develop and optimize embedded software for the HV battery management system, focusing on protection, SOC, and SOH.

The role requires strong C/C++ skills, RTOS experience, and collaboration with controls and hardware teams. You will participate in MiL/SiL/HiL tests, maintain documentation, and ensure compliance with safety standards for high-performance motorsport applications.

Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Embedded Systems, or related discipline; OR Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of experience in embedded software development.
• Expertise in battery management systems and battery control algorithms (protection/derating, SOC, SOH).
• Familiarity with HV battery physics, high voltage bus networks, and safety interlocks.
• Strong embedded C & RTOS proficiency; experience with CAN/CAN FD, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, UART.
• Experience with MiL/SiL/HiL, trackside testing, and software validation frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and maintain embedded software in C, C++, and real-time languages for HV BMS and components.
• Implement sensor data acquisition, hardware abstraction layers, RT communication, and diagnostics.
• Collaborate with controls and hardware teams to ensure cohesive system operation.
• Perform debugging, verification, and validation across MiL/SiL/HiL and trackside tests.
• Create requirements and unit tests to ensure clean, scalable, and safe code.
