Job summary

Novus, the prison education provider at HMP Lindholme, is recruiting a Barbering & Peer Mentor Teacher. You will deliver engaging barbering lessons, mentor peers, and inspire learners to develop confidence and skills in a challenging, supportive environment.

This permanent, full‑time role (37 hours per week) requires a teaching qualification and a Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy certificate. The successful candidate will motivate learners, track progress, complete timely reports, and work

Qualifications

  • Teaching qualification required or in progress with commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months.
  • Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy is essential.
  • Experience creating engaging, stimulating learning environments that motivate learners.
  • Proven ability to meet quality targets and produce timely reports.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver barbering lessons and oversee peer mentoring within the programme.
  • Motivate and support learners to develop practical barbering skills and employability.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to progress reports.
  • Collaborate with the wider education team to ensure a safe, inclusive learning environment.

We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Lindholme, working as a Barbering & Peer Mentor Teacher. This role is offered on a permanent, full-time basis, working 37 hours per week.

Site Information

HMP Lindholme is located near Hatfield Woodhouse in South Yorkshire. It operates as a Category C to accommodate male prisoners. The teams aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe at all times. The prison's mission is to provide a secure, safe, and rehabilitative environment that encourages positive change and prepares inmates for a successful reintegration into society

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need to:



  • Hold a teaching qualification and where applicable, relevant subject specialist qualification - with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months

  • Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy

  • Have experience in creating stimulating, vibrant environments which are conducive to learning and motivational for learners

  • Have previous track record showing achievement of quality targets

  • Have successfully produced accurate and timely reports

  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills

  • Can motivate and enthuse learners

  • Have organisational skills to prioritise workload to meet deadlines and targets

  • Demonstrate positive team working
