Job summary

Novus, the prison education provider, invites applications for a Personal and Social Development (PSD) and Employability Teacher at HMP Stafford. This permanent, full-time role (37 hours per week) delivers PSD and employability sessions to learners in custody, helping them build life skills, confidence and progression opportunities.

You will plan, deliver and assess sessions, support progression planning and work with education and resettlement teams.

Qualifications

• Hold a recognised teaching qualification (options may be available to work towards within 12 months).
• Hold a relevant subject specialist qualification, or have experience of delivering education, training, personal development or employability programmes.
• Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy at minimum.
• Be passionate about supporting learners to achieve their potential.
• Be committed to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.
• Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan, deliver and assess PSD and Employability programmes in prison education.

• Set goals, monitor progress and give feedback for development.

Are you passionate about helping learners in custody build the confidence, resilience and practical skills they need to move forward? We’re looking for a dedicated Personal and Social Development (PSD) and Employability Teacher to join our prison education team, supporting learners to develop essential life, communication and employability skills that can make a lasting difference. In this rewarding role, you’ll deliver engaging sessions that encourage personal growth, positive choices and future aspirations, helping learners prepare for progression, employment and successful rehabilitation.

We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Stafford, working as a Personal and Social Development (PSD) and Employability Teacher. This role is offered on a permanent, full-time basis, working 37 hours per week.

HMP Stafford is a notable Category C men’s prison, situated in Stafford, Staffordshire. Established in 1793, the prison has evolved significantly over the centuries. Initially designed to house a variety of offenders, it has been reclassified multiple times to meet changing demands. The prison’s capacity is approximately 751, with most inmates serving sentences ranging from two to four years. The prison offers extensive support and educational programs aimed at reducing reoffending rates.

Role Responsibilities

• Plan, deliver and assess PSD and Employability programmes within a prison education setting.
• Support learners to develop confidence, resilience, communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills.
• Deliver employability learning including CVs, applications, interviews, workplace behaviours and progression planning.
• Set learning goals, monitor progress and provide feedback to support achievement and personal development.
• Create a safe, inclusive learning environment that encourages participation, reflection and positive choices.
• Work with education, resettlement and wider prison teams to support engagement, achievement and progression.

To be successful in this role, you will need to:

• Be passionate about supporting learners to achieve their potential.

• Hold a recognised teaching qualification (options may be available to work towards within 12 months)
• Hold a relevant subject specialist qualification, or have experience of delivering education, training, personal development or employability programmes.

• Demonstrate understanding, or have experience in, creating stimulating, vibrant environments which are conducive to learning and motivational for learners
• Have a good previous track record of achieving quality targets and engaging in positive team working
• Produce accurate and timely reports
• Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills
• Have an ability to motivate and enthuse learners from diverse backgrounds in the subject matter
• Demonstrate good organisational skills and administrative skills to prioritise workload and meet deadlines/targets
