Job overview

An opportunity has arisen to join our large and enthusiastic occupational therapy team here in Secure Services. Wickham unit is a 31-bedded low secure service, providing recovery‑focussed care. Fromeside is a regional medium secure unit, which provides a service to 81 in‑patient service users with mental health needs

The occupational therapy team is a well‑established, integral and valued part of the multi‑disciplinary clinical team. Within the role, you will work closely with colleagues from the multi‑disciplinary team to provide a direct clinical service to in‑patients with mental health needs in either of our low or medium secure units.

Main duties of the job

Working as a key part of the team, you will routinely undertake all aspects of the Occupational Therapy process, including assessing each service user’s occupational functioning; planning, implementing and reviewing appropriate interventions and treatment methods. You will be able to employ a range of individual and group interventions, which embrace social inclusion and recovery principles at their core. You will benefit from working with a large and supportive team, within a unique and innovative environment.

On joining the team, you will receive a comprehensive structured induction package. We offer a preceptorship package for newly qualified Occupational Therapists and run monthly CPD sessions to ensure we are up to date with best practice and developing ideas. Within the team and across the wider service promote all aspects of continuing professional development, we meet monthly as a group of registered Occupational Therapists to focus on developing our assessment and reporting skills as well as taking part in additional training opportunities for expanding our skillset.

Due to the complex nature of the work we carry out and the environment that we work in, we place great value upon the use of supervision and each member of the team will be in receipt of at least monthly clinical supervision, monthly management supervision and the opportunity to attend monthly reflective practice with the wider team.
