Job summary

Saab UK in Bedfordshire is seeking a Flight Control Systems Engineer to join our team developing autonomous flight software for UAS platforms. You will design, implement and test safety-critical algorithms using MATLAB/Simulink, deploy code to target hardware and conduct real-world flight tests at our facility near the office.

Qualifications

• Degree in aerospace engineering or similar required.
• Understanding of aerodynamics and flight mechanics.
• Experience using MATLAB/Simulink for developing algorithms and control laws.
• Hands-on experience designing and commissioning control systems.
• National Security Vetting clearance required.
• Desirable: experience designing and implementing guidance, navigation and control algorithms for unmanned systems.
• Knowledge of sensing systems.
• Hands-on experience with small UAS.
• MathWorks Stateflow, Simulink Coder and Embedded Coder.
• Experience developing mathematical algorithms e.g. Data fusion, state estimation.
• Experience with embedded, real-time and safety-critical software.
• Knowledge of communication systems.
• Knowledge of git.
• C++, Java, Python development.
• DO-178/ED-20x quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and test safety-critical software for flight systems.
• Contribute to requirements definition.
• Use MATLAB/Simulink to generate flight control algorithms.
• Deploy software to target hardware and conduct real-world flight tests.
• Present testing findings in reports or customer presentations.
• Contribute to process improvement and best practices.
• Collaborate in a multidisciplinary team and maintain quality targets.
• Communicate findings effectively.
