Job summary

Saab UK, Bedfordshire, is seeking a Flight Control Systems Engineer to develop and test safety-critical software for UAV flight controls. You will generate control laws with MATLAB/Simulink, deploy to hardware, and conduct real-world flight tests at our nearby facility.

You will contribute to requirements, verification, validation, and continuous improvement within a multidisciplinary team. A proactive, collaborative, and clear communicator with a passion for innovation will thrive here.

Qualifications

• Essential: Degree in aerospace engineering or similar.
• Understanding of aerodynamics and flight mechanics and their impact on flight control.
• Experience in using MATLAB/Simulink for developing algorithms and control laws.
• Hands-on experience in designing and commissioning control systems.
• Existing SC Clearance.
• Desirable: Experience with guidance, navigation and control for fixed/rotary wing vehicles.
• Knowledge of sensing systems and small UAS.
• Experience with DO-178/ED-20x quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and test safety-critical software contributing to flight systems.
• Use MATLAB/Simulink to generate software such as flight control laws and data manipulation algorithms.
• Deploy software to target hardware and conduct real-world flight testing.
• Present testing findings in reports or customer-facing presentations.
• Contribute to development of standard operating processes and quality improvements.
• Collaborate in a multidisciplinary team with strong communication and proactive attitude.
