Job summary

Saab UK in Bedfordshire is seeking a Flight Control Systems Engineer to develop, test and deploy safety-critical software for our UAS/UAV flight systems. You will work with MATLAB/Simulink to implement flight control laws, run bespoke simulations, and perform real-world flight tests at our test facility near the office.

Qualifications

• Degree in aerospace engineering or similar.
• Understanding of aerodynamics and flight mechanics.
• Experience using MATLAB/Simulink for developing algorithms and control laws.
• Hands-on experience designing and commissioning control systems.
• Existing SC Clearance.
• Desirable: guidance, navigation, and control algorithms for fixed/rotary wing.
• Knowledge of sensing systems and state estimation.
• Experience with small UAS.
• Stateflow, Simulink Coder and Embedded Coder packages.
• Experience with data fusion, embedded and real-time systems.
• Knowledge of communication systems and Git.
• C++, Java, Python development skills.
• Experience with DO-178/ED-20x software standards.

Responsibilities

• Develop and test safety-critical software for flight systems.
• Use MATLAB/Simulink to generate flight control laws and data algorithms.
• Deploy software to target hardware and conduct real-world flight tests.
• Contribute to requirements and documentation.
• Assist in SOP development and continuous improvement within a multidisciplinary team.
