Job summary

Saab UK is seeking a Flight Control Systems Engineer to develop and test safety-critical flight control software for UAS/UAV platforms. You will use MATLAB/Simulink to craft control laws, verify with bespoke simulations, and deploy to hardware for flight testing near Bedford.

You’ll contribute to requirements, process improvements and present results to customers. Strong teamwork and communication are essential.

Qualifications

Essential: Degree in aerospace engineering or similar.
Understanding of aerodynamics and flight mechanics, and their impact on flight control.
Experience in using MATLAB/Simulink for developing algorithms and control laws.
Hands-on experience in designing and commissioning control systems.
Existing SC Clearance.
Desirable: Experience designing guidance, navigation and control for fixed/rotary wings.
Knowledge of sensing systems and embedded flight hardware.
Experience with DO-178/ED-20x safety standards and version control (git).
Proficiency in C++, Java, Python; familiarity with data fusion and state estimation.

Responsibilities

Develop, maintain and test safety-critical flight control software.
Contribute to requirements definition and flight control law algorithms using MATLAB/Simulink.
Deploy software to target hardware and conduct real-world flight testing near the office.
Present testing findings in reports or customer-facing presentations.
Support process development and continuous improvement within a multidisciplinary team.
