Job summary

Nick Chandler Motor Engineer in the United Kingdom is seeking an Automotive Service Receptionist to greet customers, manage bookings, and coordinate between customers and our workshop team. The role focuses on delivering a warm, professional experience and accurate administration in a busy, independent garage.

You will handle bookings, capture vehicle details, and keep customers informed about progress while supporting parts ordering and general reception duties.

Qualifications

• Experience in a reception, customer service, or administrative role.
• Clear, confident, and polite telephone and face-to-face communication.
• Basic familiarity with vehicles, MOTs, services, brakes, diagnostics.
• Good computer literacy (booking software, email, spreadsheets) and strong multitasking.
• Reliable, self-motivated, and team-oriented.

Responsibilities

• Welcome customers dropping off or collecting vehicles with a polite and helpful attitude.
• Act as the first point of contact for walk-ins, phone calls, and email/online enquiries.
• Schedule MOTs, services, diagnostics, and repairs into the workshop diary.
• Capture accurate vehicle details and detailed symptoms or requested work before the vehicle enters the bay.
• Keep customers updated on the progress of repairs or servicing.
• Relay technical feedback between customers and mechanics/technicians.
• Prepare job cards, process customer payments, and handle end-of-day till or invoice reconciliations.
• Maintain customer records, service history logs, and reminder systems.
• Assist the garage manager with parts ordering coordination and general housekeeping.
