Job summary

First Bus Glasgow Caledonia Depot is seeking an NVQ/SVQ Level 3 qualified Auto Electrician to join our engineering team. You will diagnose and repair electrical systems on buses, service vehicles, and perform road tests where needed, while complying with HSE and company SOPs.

Qualifications

• Minimum Level 3 NVQ/SVQ in vehicle maintenance and repair.

• Valid UK driving licence (PCV licence desirable, but not essential).

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and carry out vehicle electrical repairs, servicing, and parts replacement.
• Diagnose vehicle electrical faults and specify the correct repair method and parts.
• Carry out vehicle road tests to identify defects after repair.
• Comply with HSE legislation and Group Policies.
• Maintain and develop technical skills as required.

Job description

Position: Auto Electrician

Location: Caledonia Depot, 100 Cathcart Road, G42 7BH

Contracted Hours: 37 per week (full time & permanent + overtime available)

Working Hours: Dayshift and Nightshift roles available, both shift patterns include 1 in 3 weekends

Pay Rate: £21.54 per hour dayshift and £24.07 per hour nightshift + enhanced weekend rate - with further pay increase scheduled for April 2027

Salary: Approx. £41,442-£46,310 base salary per annum

We are now looking for an NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) qualified Auto Electrician for our First Bus Glasgow Caledonia Depot – we would love to hear from qualified candidates with great electrical knowledge and any ex-Forces personnel with an engineering apprenticeship qualification, and experienced engineers from other sectors looking for a change.

Key Responsibilities:

• Diagnose and carry out vehicle electrical repairs, servicing, and parts replacement
• Diagnose vehicle electrical faults and specify the correct method of repair and parts to be used
• Carry out vehicle road testing where necessary to identify specific vehicle defects or following remedial repair
• To fully comply with all HSE legislation along with Group Policies
• To fully comply with all relevant Standard Operating Procedures
• Maintain and develop technical skills as required

About You

• Do you have a minimum Level 3 NVQ/SVQ (or equivalent) qualification in vehicle maintenance and repair?
• Ability to multi-skill within an Engineering Environment with preferably electrically biased experience
• Do you have a valid UK driving license? A PCV licence is desirable, however not essential as we can help you achieve this
