Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking an Autism Support Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Bispham. This full-time role starts short-term with a strong likelihood of becoming longer-term for the right candidate.

The ideal candidate will have experience with SEN, particularly Autism, and possess excellent communication and relationship-building skills to support pupils with additional needs.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider school staff to support pupil progress.
• Promote independence, confidence, and positive learning behaviours.

Are you passionate about supporting children with Autism and helping them achieve their full potential?

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Autism Support Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Bispham. This is a full-time position starting initially on a short-term basis, with a strong likelihood of becoming a longer-term role for the right candidate.

The school is keen to find the right individual who can build positive relationships, provide consistent support, and make a meaningful difference to pupils with additional needs. Previous experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), particularly Autism, is highly desirable.

The Role

As an Autism Support Assistant, you will:

• Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
• Support pupils in accessing learning activities and engaging with the wider school environment.
• Encourage the development of communication, social, emotional, and behavioural skills.
• Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider school staff to support pupil progress.
• Promote independence, confidence, and positive learning behaviours.
• Help create a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will:

• Have experience working with children with SEN, particularly Autism (preferred).
• Be patient, caring, and committed to supporting children with additional needs.
• Have strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Be adaptable and able to respond to individual pupil needs.
• Have experience within schools, childcare settings, care work, support work, or youth work (desirable).
• Have a genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning.
