Job summary

Teaching Personnel is recruiting on behalf of a welcoming primary school in Bury for a full-time Autism Support Assistant. You will help children access learning, support 1:1 or small groups, and develop essential life skills in a patient, nurturing environment.

Ideal candidates are empathetic, great communicators, and proactive in adapting strategies to individual needs, building trusted relationships with pupils, staff, and families to support inclusion and success.

Autism Support Assistant

Bury, Greater Manchester

Full-Time | Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 3:30pm

Start Date: October 1st 2026

Teaching Personnel is delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a welcoming and highly inclusive primary school in Bury, seeking a full-time Autism Support Assistant to join their supportive team. The Role

As an Autism Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping children access their learning and develop essential life skills. You may work on a 1:1 basis with a pupil or support small groups of up to four children, tailoring your approach to meet their individual needs.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting pupils with autism throughout the school day
  • Encouraging social, emotional, and academic development
  • Promoting independence, confidence, and positive behaviour
  • Adapting learning activities to suit individual learning styles
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils, staff, and families

About You

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in supporting children with autism or additional needs (school-based experience is advantageous, but transferable experience is welcomed)
  • Patient, empathetic, and genuinely passionate about helping children succeed
  • Confident in adapting support strategies to meet individual needs
  • A strong communicator who can build positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, and parents
  • Proactive, organised, and committed to inclusive education
