Job summary

Teaching Personnel is partnered with a welcoming primary school in Bispham to recruit an Autism Support Assistant. This full-time role starts on a short-term basis with a strong likelihood of extension for the right candidate.

You will provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with Autism Spectrum Conditions, helping them access learning and participate in class activities while developing communication and social skills. Prior SEN/Autism experience is highly desirable.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children with SEN, particularly Autism (preferred).
  • Patience, gentle approach and ability to build relationships with pupils and staff.
  • Ability to support learning and promote inclusive classroom practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with Autism Spectrum Conditions.
  • Support pupils in accessing learning activities and the wider school environment.
  • Promote communication, social, emotional and behavioural development.
  • Collaborate with the class teacher, SENCO and school staff to track pupil progress.
  • Encourage independence and positive learning behaviours in pupils.

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Autism Support Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Bispham. This is a full-time position starting initially on a short-term basis, with a strong likelihood of becoming a longer-term role for the right candidate.

The school is keen to find the right individual who can build positive relationships, provide consistent support, and make a meaningful difference to pupils with additional needs. Previous experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), particularly Autism, is highly desirable.

As an Autism Support Assistant, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
  • Support pupils in accessing learning activities and engaging with the wider school environment.
  • Encourage the development of communication, social, emotional, and behavioural skills.
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider school staff to support pupil progress.
  • Promote independence, confidence, and positive learning behaviours.
  • Help create a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have experience working with children with SEN, particularly Autism (preferred).
  • Be patient, caring, and committed to supporting children with additional needs.
  • Have strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
  • Be adaptable and able to respond to individual pupil needs.
  • Have experience within schools, childcare settings, care work, support work, or youth work (desirable).
  • Have a genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning.
  • A welcoming and supportive primary school environment.
  • Friendly and experienced staff who work collaboratively.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
