Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is supporting a Birmingham secondary school in recruiting a School Attendance Officer. You will monitor daily attendance, run morning/afternoon registers, and engage families to improve punctuality and attendance across year groups.

The role requires experience in education, familiarity with MIS systems (SIMS/Arbor/Bromcom), strong communication, excellent organisation, and an Enhanced DBS check. Term-time, full-time hours with safeguarding at the core.

Qualifications

• Experience in an educational setting in attendance, administrative, or pastoral roles.
• Familiar with school MIS such as SIMS, Arbor or Bromcom; proficient in Excel, Word, Outlook.
• Excellent communication with families; firm attendance policy enforcement.
• Strong organizational skills; discreet handling of sensitive information.
• Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service, or willingness to complete application immediately.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily attendance tracking and manage absences.
• Make first-day absence calls via phone, email, and messaging systems.
• Maintain attendance data in the school's MIS and generate reports.
• Identify pupils needing intervention and arrange meetings with parents.
• Ensure compliance with local authority codes and safeguarding policies.
