Job description
Overview

The post holder will support scientific teams in the provision of a timely and efficient accredited Clinical Genomics Service. The post holder will work within Cancer Diagnostics Central Reception and all areas of Clinical Genomics (Cytogenetics and Molecular Diagnostics) to perform laboratory support duties with minimal supervision. The department operates an extended hours service to deliver Cancer Test Directory requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Provide laboratory support to the Clinical Genomics service, ensuring timely and accurate results for pathology diagnosis and treatment.
  • Work within Cancer Diagnostics Central Reception and across Clinical Genomics (Cytogenetics and Molecular Diagnostics) with a focus on sample collection, data entry, sample prioritisation and distribution.
  • Rotational shift involvement to cover Central Reception opening hours (8.30am to 5.30pm) and to participate in the extended hours service as required by NHSE Cancer Test Directory.
  • Rotate through Clinical Genomics laboratories performing duties such as specimen processing, data entry of requests, cell culturing, preparing slides for FISH analysis, preparation of FFPE slides for tumour assessment and macrodissection, DNA/RNA/ctDNA extraction, equipment maintenance and supporting scientists.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail and work to high standards, following defined protocols and contributing to accurate and high-quality analytical results for diagnosis and patient care.
