Job summary

Garden House Hospice Care in Hitchin operates a Bancroft charity shop that funds wellbeing and palliative care services. We seek an Assistant Store Manager to support day-to-day store operations, drive sales, maintain high standards, and lead volunteers.

You will deputise for the Store Manager, focus on income maximisation, and ensure safety and policy compliance across the team. This is a full-time role requiring weekend work.

Qualifications

• Experience in a retail or customer-facing environment.
• Experience supervising or supporting staff or volunteers.
• Strong customer service with a commercial mindset.
• Awareness of visual merchandising and retail standards.

Responsibilities

• Deliver sales income, profit and KPI targets for the store.
• Analyse sales performance and implement improvement actions.
• Maintain strong visual merchandising standards to maximise sales and customer engagement.
• Act as a role model for customer service, professionalism and positive behaviour.
• Support recruitment, induction and retention of volunteers.
• Promote Gift Aid confidently to donors and customers.
