Job summary

The Cotswold Company is opening a new showroom in Bury St Edmunds and seeks an Assistant Manager to help open and shape it from day one. You will work with the Showroom Manager, spend time on the shop floor with customers, and help grow the team to deliver exceptional service.

This role requires at least three years of supervisory experience in retail, a passion for furnishings, and the ability to coach a team while contributing to sales targets and a positive store environment.

Qualifications

• At least three years’ supervisory experience in a busy retailer.
• A love of furnishings and home design with customer focus.
• Experience coaching a team and setting objectives.
• Commercial mindset with knowledge of sales targets and KPIs.

Responsibilities

• Run showroom operations on a day-to-day basis alongside the manager.
• Coach and train the team to deliver outstanding customer service.
• Support meeting sales plans and follow up on leads and quotes.
• Ensure the showroom is well merchandised and rotas are planned.

We’re opening our newest showroom in Bury St Edmunds. We’re looking for an Assistant Manager to help open its doors, build its team and make it a place customers love to visit.

The role

You’ll work alongside the Showroom Manager to run the showroom day to day and step up as their deputy when they’re away. You’ll spend plenty of time on the shop floor, getting to know customers and helping them find pieces they’ll enjoy for years. You’ll also help the team grow and thrive.

What you’ll be doing

• Setting the standard for warm, thoughtful service. Handling feedback and queries with care. Helping build a team that feels supported.
• Coaching, training & encouraging your team. Bringing new skills on and helping everyone reach their goals.
• Helping the showroom meet and beat its sales plan. Following up on leads and quotes. Reporting on performance when the manager is away.
• Keeping the showroom beautifully merchandised. Planning rotas around busy periods. Keeping everyday routines running smoothly, cash handling included.

What you’ll bring

• At least three years’ supervisory experience in a busy, customer-focused retailer
• A love of furnishings, design and beautiful homes
• A natural way with people, and experience coaching a team and setting objectives
• Confidence with basic HR, including managing performance and absence
• A commercial mind, with a good feel for sales targets and KPIs
• Strong organisation, and the resilience to adapt as things change
• Curiosity, plenty of enthusiasm and a want to find better ways to do things
