Job summary

Storal is seeking a Casual Nursery Chef/Cook at Gelston Manor Nursery School. You will assist in preparing nutritious meals and supporting the nursery kitchen, while maintaining high safety and hygiene standards.

This role supports the permanent cook and ensures smooth operation during leave periods. Ideal candidates are Level 2 Food and Hygiene qualified with experience in commercial kitchens and a strong understanding of health and safety regulations.

Qualifications

• Level 2 Food and Hygiene qualified cook.
• Experience in a commercial kitchen as an assistant cook/chef.
• Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations and COSHH.

Responsibilities

• Catering for children with specific dietary needs.
• Adhere to all Food Safety, Health and Safety and COSHH guidelines.
• Deputise for the Nursery Cook during absences and provide full‑time cover when required.

How you’ll spend your time here

As a Casual Nursery Chef/Cook, you will provide essential support during periods of leave, absence, or when additional help is needed. Working closely with the Nursery Cook, you’ll assist in preparing nutritious, freshly made meals while maintaining the highest standards of safety and hygiene in the nursery kitchen at all times. Your flexibility and reliability will ensure the smooth operation of the kitchen during these periods.

Day to day you will find yourself;

• Catering for children with specific dietary needs
• Working to an extremelyhigh level when it comes to the relevantFood and Hygiene,Chartered Institute of Environmental Health-Food Safety, Health and Safety and Ofsted guidelines and regulations
• Ensuring thatall children have rich stimulating eating experiences
• Maintaining stock levels and ensuring stock rotation
• Following COSHH and other relevant guidelines
• Deputising for the permanent Nursery Cook in all absences with the expectation of deputising full time when this is required
