Job summary

Kingswood Early Years Nursery is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to support the Nursery Cook during absences, preparing nutritious meals while upholding high safety and hygiene standards in the nursery kitchen.

You will collaborate closely with staff to cater to dietary needs and ensure meals deliver a nourishing, balanced experience for children in a warm, nurturing environment.

Qualifications

• Level 2 Food and Hygiene (desirable).
• Experience in a commercial kitchen as a kitchen assistant/cook or similar.
• Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations and COSHH.
• A full clean UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Catering for children with specific dietary needs.
• Adhere to Food Hygiene, HACCP, Health and Safety and Ofsted guidelines.
• Ensure rich, stimulating eating experiences for children.
• Maintain stock levels and rotation.
• Follow COSHH and other relevant guidelines.
• Deputise for the Nursery Cook during absences.

How you’ll spend your time here

As a Kitchen Assistant, you will provide essential support during periods of leave, absence, or when additional help is needed. Working closely with the Nursery Cook, you’ll assist in preparing nutritious, freshly made meals while maintaining the highest standards of safety and hygiene in the nursery kitchen at all times. Your flexibility and reliability will ensure the smooth operation of the kitchen during these periods.

Day to day you will find yourself;

• Catering for children with specific dietary needs
• Working to an extremely high level when it comes to the relevant Food and Hygiene, Chartered Institute of Environmental Health-Food Safety, Health and Safety and Ofsted guidelines and regulations
• Ensuring that all children have rich stimulating eating experiences
• Maintaining stock levels and ensuring stock rotation
• Following COSHH and other relevant guidelines
• Deputising for the permanent Nursery Cook in all absences with the expectation of deputising full time when this is required

We’d love to talk to you if you have the following

• Level 2 Food and Hygiene (desirable)
• Experience in a commercial kitchen as a kitchen assistant cook/chef or something very similar
• Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations and COSHH
• A full clean UK driving license
