Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Murphy Assistant Buyer

• Provide an effective and professional service in the procurement of rail services and materials
• Work as part of a dedicated procurement team for the project
• Provide best value for project procurement solutions for the project
• Procurement of materials and services, assisting with the production and management of the procurement schedule, development of invitation to tender documents in conjunction with project teams
• Carry out tender analysis and award recommendations
• Advise on the project's supply chain management activities, including structuring the supply chain and carrying out performance and relationship management to drive improved performance/cost benefits
• Support activities that generate and encourage efficient, productive and continuously improving supply chain performance
• Take part in group procurement functional goals and objectives within the region
• Continuously seek out and assess new supply chain members to meet project demand
• Develop and forge closer relationships with the supply chain to encourage a culture of inclusive interaction and learning and an atmosphere of mutual respect and understanding

Qualifications

• Knowledge and understanding of work practices, processes and procedures within the rail construction procurement process
• Working knowledge of contracts i.e. NEC is desirable
• CIPS Level 3 is desirable
• Understanding of procurement practices
• Knowledge of sustainability goals
• Aspiration for a career in procurement in one of the UK's leading family‑owned construction companies
