Position: 1:1 ASC Specialist Teaching Assistant
Location: Northampton
Salary: Competitive, based on experience

About the Role:

This rewarding role involves providing dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil with ASC, helping them to feel safe, understood, and included within the classroom environment. You’ll work closely with the SENCO, class teacher, and external specialists to tailor support to the child’s individual needs—focusing on communication, routine, sensory processing, and emotional regulation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide personalised 1:1 support to a pupil with ASC
  • Implement structured routines and consistent strategies that promote independence and reduce anxiety
  • Support the pupil’s communication, social interaction, and engagement in learning
  • Work collaboratively with the teaching team and external professionals
  • Maintain detailed records of progress, triggers, and successful interventions

About You:

  • Previous experience supporting children with ASC (essential)
  • Knowledge of autism-specific strategies such as visual timetables, PECs, or sensory regulation techniques
  • Calm, empathetic, and patient approach to learning and behaviour management
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build trust with both the pupil and their family
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, SEN training) are desirable
