Overview

Oberlanders are a multi-award winning architectural practice with offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow, London, Oxford, Ardgay, Inverness and Galashiels. We specialise in all areas of architectural design with particular experience in large scale, complex science and research, education and health care projects. Our project locations span the length and breadth of the UK and Ireland and occasionally on sites in mainland Europe. We have a staff of nearly 60 working as an integrated unit across all office locations.

Job overview We are seeking a talented and motivated ARB Registered Architect to join our team. The successful candidate will lead and support architectural projects from concept through to completion, ensuring high-quality outcomes that meet client needs and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

Design Support:

  • Lead architectural design and project coordination through all RIBA work stages
  • Oversee planning applications, building regulations submissions, and contract administration
  • Prepare 2D and 3D drawings using software such as Revit
  • Work on concept design, schematic design, and design development phases.
  • Collaborate with senior architects and design teams to refine design concepts.

Technical Drawing & Documentation:

  • Prepare technical drawings, presentations, and reports for clients and regulatory bodies.
  • Assist in compiling project specifications, schedules, and cost estimates.
  • Ensure that all designs comply with building regulations, safety standards, and other legal requirements.

Site Visits and Surveys:

  • Conducting site visits and surveys to gather data for projects.
  • Record measurements, assess site conditions, and contribute to the feasibility analysis.
  • Collaborate with engineers and contractors on-site for ongoing project development.

Project Management Support:

  • Help coordinate project timelines, ensuring that tasks are completed on schedule.
  • Communicate with stakeholders (clients, contractors, and consultants) to ensure all aspects of the project are progressing smoothly.
  • Maintain project documentation and update it as required.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Work closely with other external stakeholders, including structural engineers, landscape architects, and urban planners.
  • Attend project meetings and assist in presenting ideas and design solutions to clients.

Learning and Development:

  • Stay updated on current architectural trends, software tools, and industry best practices.
  • Participate in training programs, workshops, and professional development activities to enhance technical knowledge and skills.
Key Skills and Qualifications
  • RIBA Part 3 qualification and ARB registered
  • Proven experience in UK architectural practice (ideally across RIBA stages)
  • Strong design and technical drawing skills
  • Proficiency in Revit
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Knowledge of UK planning, building regulations, and contract administration
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Desirable
  • Knowledge of construction processes and materials.
  • Strong interest in sustainable design and environmental practices.
