A leading forklift truck manufacturer in East Hagbourne is seeking an enthusiastic apprentice for a career as a forklift engineer. This role offers excellent training and hands-on experience. Responsibilities include assisting mentors, performing maintenance on equipment, and attending college training sessions. Ideal candidates must have GCSEs in relevant subjects and possess strong communication skills and a passion for engineering. You need to be over 18 and have a UK driving license or be working towards one.

Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic person who is looking to learn the skills needed to develop a career as a forklift engineer. This apprenticeship role is an excellent opportunity to combine on‑the‑job working, excellent training and development and to work for the world's No 1 forklift truck and materials handling manufacturer.

Responsibilities
  • Shadowing and working with your mentor and the team to understand materials handling equipment.
  • Learning about the trucks, how they work and how to fix them.
  • Block weeks at college where you will learn new skills and take part in both classroom and workshop learning.
  • Online learning and development with the learning provider.
  • Apply health and safety procedures and safe systems of work in compliance with regulations and standards relevant to lift truck or powered access machines.
  • Obtain and interpret lift truck and powered access machine technical data and repair instructions.
  • Use tools, workshop equipment, diagnostic and measuring equipment when carrying out maintenance and repairs.
  • Perform preventative maintenance activities on lift truck and powered access machines.
  • Perform inspections on lift truck and powered access machines in compliance with Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) and Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) regulations.
  • Remove and replace mechanical, electrical and hydraulic components.
  • Apply diagnostic principles and problem‑solving techniques to diagnose faults on lift truck or powered access machine systems.
  • Carry out functional testing and quality checks on repaired lift truck or powered access machine components and systems.
  • Carry out repairs and make required adjustments.
  • Record or enter information – paper based or electronic. For example, job sheets, risk assessments, equipment service records, test results, handover documents and manufacturers' documentation, work sheets, checklists.
  • Check and maintain stock.
  • Communicate with others verbally, for example, colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Prepare and maintain a clean, tidy and safe working area.
  • Identify, organise and use resources to complete tasks, in compliance with quality, safety, sustainability and environmental standards and guidance.
  • Follow equality, diversity and inclusion procedures.
  • Store and maintain tools, workshop equipment, diagnostic and measuring equipment for maintenance and repairs.
Training & Qualification

The apprenticeship will include block release training at Stephenson College (Coalville, Leicestershire) as well as on‑the‑job and off‑the‑job training. The apprentice will be working towards a Lift Truck Powered Access Engineering Technician Level 3 Qualification.
