Job summary

Sainsbury's Tech is seeking a seasoned platform engineer to design, build and operate shared cloud platform capabilities that power ML/AI solutions. You will create reusable infrastructure and automation to improve developer experience and reduce operational overhead.

As part of a platform engineering team, you will collaborate with product teams and data scientists, ensure secure, scalable services, and drive continuous improvement across deployment, security and governance.

Qualifications

• Experience building, operating or improving cloud platforms in AWS, Azure or GCP.
• Strong understanding of Infrastructure as Code.
• Strong programming skills, with Python or other modern languages.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows and modern software delivery practices.
• Knowledge of cloud networking, identity management, security and access controls.
• Experience managing containerised workloads and cloud-hosted platform services.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving across infrastructure and applications.
• Experience building reusable platform capabilities and self-service engineering solutions.
• Ability to lead technical initiatives and take ownership of delivery outcomes.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, with willingness to coach others.
• Growth mindset, with ability to learn new technologies.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and operate shared platform capabilities enabling teams to deploy ML/AI securely.
• Create reusable infrastructure, tooling and automation to improve developer experience.
• Build and maintain cloud-native platform services covering deployment, networking, security, identity, monitoring and governance.
• Collaborate with product teams, data scientists and ML/AI Ops to understand requirements.
• Drive engineering excellence through automation, standardisation, observability and reliability.
• Contribute to the evolution of AI/ML platform strategy, ensuring security and cost-efficiency.
• Troubleshoot complex issues across cloud services, infrastructure and apps.
• Support and mentor engineers within the team and drive continuous improvement.
