Job summary

Sainsbury's is seeking engineers to join its platform engineering team to build reusable cloud-native capabilities for AI-enabled products and services.

You'll collaborate with product teams, data scientists and ML/AI Ops to deliver secure, reliable platforms across AWS, Azure and GCP, while driving automation and developer experience.

Qualifications

• Experience building, operating or improving cloud platforms in AWS, Azure or GCP.
• Strong understanding of infrastructure as code.
• Strong programming skills, with Python or other modern languages.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git-based workflows and modern software delivery practices.
• Knowledge of cloud networking, identity management, security and access controls.
• Experience managing containerised workloads and cloud-hosted platforms.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving across infra and app layers.
• Experience building reusable platform capabilities and self-service engineering solutions.
• Ability to lead technical initiatives and own delivery outcomes.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills with willingness to coach others.
• Growth mindset and ability to learn new technologies and apply engineering principles.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and operate shared platform capabilities for ML/AI solutions.
• Create reusable infrastructure, tooling and automation to improve developer experience.
• Build and maintain cloud-native platform services covering deployment, networking, security and identity.
• Collaborate with product teams, data scientists and ML/AI Ops engineers to understand requirements.
• Drive engineering excellence through automation, standardisation, observability and reliability.
• Contribute to AI/ML platform strategy, ensuring security, resilience and cost-effectiveness.
• Troubleshoot complex technical issues across cloud services, infrastructure and applications.
• Support and mentor engineers within the team, sharing knowledge and promoting continuous improvement.
