Job description
Overview

Sandwell Adult and Family learning are looking for an experienced support member of staff for its adult education learning service based in Sandwell. This is a full-time post of 37 hrs per week and an employed fixed term contract from October 2025, subject to continued funding by WMCA, renewed each year.

Responsibilities
  • Inspire and support adult learners to successfully complete their course/qualification. Predominantly, the courses will be English and maths, but other subjects may also require support.
  • Monitor the progress of individuals and keep accurate, up to date records of achievements after every lesson.
  • Support the tutor in the classroom and offer 1-1 tutorials face to face and through online platforms; all tasks will be outlined by the relevant tutor.
  • Assist in the initial assessment process, facilitate support sessions and lead learner forums.
  • Support the English curriculum quality lead with marking and assessing initial assessment paperwork.
  • Occasionally cover a class as required.
  • Salary and benefits: £25,583 (£13.26 per hour) to £24,702 (£12.80 per hour), mileage and generous holiday entitlement.
Qualifications
  • Minimum level 2 certificate in learning support
  • GCSE English and Maths at grade 4-9 (or Grade C) or Functional Skills English and Maths level 2
  • Minimum of 1 year’s experience of supporting adults in an adult education setting
  • Experience of working alongside tutors within English and Maths in adult delivery
Contract details

Full-time post of 37 hours per week, employed fixed term contract from October 2025, subject to continued funding by WMCA; this will be renewed each year.
