Haywood Hospital houses the long-established specialist rehabilitation service for the North Midlands. The Rehabilitation Medicine department is the recognised regional provider of bed‑based and outpatient specialist services for adults with complex disabilities. The inpatient unit, Broadfield Ward, provides specialist inpatient rehabilitation in 21 UKROC accredited level 2a beds.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide formalised support and practical assistance to service users in order for them to regain control over their lives and their own unique recovery process. Promote independence and quality of life and facilitate onward care planning and safe, timely and appropriate discharge. They will engage with service users to promote their recovery and reintegration with the aim of assisting service users to gain and maintain independence in the community and other step‑down settings.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
  • To consider each service user’s personal circumstances and preferences to help individuals identify their own achievable and meaningful recovery goals and actively, practically and creatively support their progress toward these.
  • To take an active role within supporting therapeutic creative interventions for service users; enabling them to engage and participate within the hospital setting as well as mainstream activity in the domains of employment/vocation, education, leisure, social networks and community connections.
  • Facilitate access to community groups and networks that enable participation in community and/or work activities, to maximise service user’s opportunities for socially valued roles and positive identity.
  • Support other members of the multi‑disciplinary team in promoting engagement and activities and in identifying appropriate activities and imparting information/education as required.
  • To act as patient / carer advocate supporting patient & carer forums ensuring patient experience is at the forefront of service delivery.
