Accounts Assistant | Leeds City Centre - office based

Full-time, Permanent | Mon-Fri / 8am-4pm
Salary: £26,500 rising to £27,810 on successful completion of probation

If you are an experienced Accounts Assistant looking for a stable role within a well-established business, this could be an excellent next step for you. We are recruiting on behalf of a long-standing company in the import and distribution sector that offers a supportive finance team, a varied workload, and a positive working environment. Reporting to the Finance Director, as Accounts Assistant you will play an important part in the day-to-day running of the finance function. This is a role where your attention to detail will be valued, your contribution will be recognised, and you will have the opportunity to build on your existing finance experience.

Your Role

As an Accounts Assistant, you will support the finance function across a range of responsibilities, helping to ensure accurate and timely financial processing.

Banking and Cash Management
  • Carrying out daily and monthly bank reconciliations across multiple accounts.
  • Monitoring bank balances and highlighting discrepancies or unusual transactions.
  • Processing incoming and outgoing payments, including BACS, CHAPS, and card receipts.
  • Accurately allocating customer receipts against invoices.
Accounts Payable and Receivable
  • Processing supplier invoices and ensuring correct coding and approvals.
  • Preparing and processing supplier payment runs in line with agreed terms.
  • Raising sales invoices and credit notes as required.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date ledgers.
Credit Control
  • Monitoring customer accounts and agreed credit limits.
  • Chasing overdue payments in a professional and timely manner.
  • Resolving invoice and payment queries with customers and internal teams.
General Finance Support
  • Liaising with sales, customer service, and logistics teams to resolve order or invoicing issues.
  • Supporting invoicing and despatch processes where required.
  • Assisting with ad-hoc finance and administrative tasks.
What We're Looking For
Essential
  • Previous experience in an accounts or finance assistant role.
  • A good understanding of bank reconciliations and payment processing.
  • A high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Excel and accounting or ERP systems, including AI-enabled tools.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
Desirable
  • Knowledge of VAT and basic accounting principles.
  • Part-qualified AAT or currently studying towards a finance qualification.
