Job summary

Milk Education are seeking a caring 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a primary-aged pupil with autism in a South Manchester school. You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and school team to provide personalised support throughout the day.

Experience in SEND or autism is preferred, with a patient, calm and nurturing approach. This role offers dedicated consultant support and opportunities to develop SEND and classroom skills within a supportive environment.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with autism, SEND or additional needs.
• Experience in a primary school, nursery, care or similar setting.
• Be patient, calm, caring and nurturing.
• Be confident providing 1:1 support.
• Build positive and trusting relationships with children.
• Have strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual support throughout the school day
• Help the pupil access lessons and classroom activities
• Adapt tasks to meet their individual learning needs
• Encourage confidence, independence and engagement
• Support communication and interaction with peers and adults
• Help with routines, transitions, breaktimes and lunchtimes
• Provide reassurance and support with emotional regulation
• Encourage positive behaviour and relationships
• Monitor progress and share observations with the teaching team
• Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO
• Help maintain a safe, calm and inclusive environment
• Follow safeguarding, SEND and school procedures
