Job summary

Milk Education in Leeds is recruiting 1:1 Teaching Assistants to support primary pupils across a range of schools, including those with ASD and additional learning needs. You will provide consistent, personalised support to help children access learning and feel confident, included and successful in the classroom.

A patient, calm and resilient approach, strong communication and teamwork with teachers and SENCOs is essential.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one support to a child with ASD and behavioural needs.

  • Support during lessons, breaks and school activities as required.

We are currently recruiting 1:1 Teaching Assistants to work across a range of primary schools throughout Leeds, supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), behavioural needs and additional learning requirements on a long term basis.

The Role

As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide dedicated one-to-one support for a child with ASD and/or behavioural needs.
  • Support pupils to access learning and participate positively in classroom activities.
  • Develop positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Encourage communication, independence, confidence and social development.
  • Help children manage emotions and regulate their behaviour using appropriate strategies.Support pupils when they experience difficulties with transitions, routines or changes.
  • Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs and other professionals to implement individual support strategies.
  • Maintain a calm, consistent and encouraging approach throughout the school day.
  • Support pupils during lessons, break times, lunchtimes and wider school activities where required.
About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Patient, caring and empathetic.
  • Calm and confident when supporting children with challenging or unpredictable behaviour.
  • Consistent and able to maintain clear, positive boundaries.
  • Passionate about supporting children with SEND.
  • Able to build strong relationships while maintaining a professional approach.
  • Adaptable and willing to learn about each child's individual needs.
  • A strong communicator who can work effectively as part of a wider school team.

Previous experience supporting children with ASD, SEND or behavioural needs is desirable but not essential. Experience in a primary school, specialist setting, care environment or similar role would be advantageous.
