Project: Estimating Individual Treatment Effects using Observational Data in Oncology

Complete an internship project at SOPHiAGENETICS whose mission is to build the future of AI-assisted medicine. Joining the R&D Multimodal Biostatistics team as a Data Scientist Intern.

Your mission:

Reporting to the Multimodal Biostatistics Manager, you will contribute to the development of machine learning models designed to estimate heterogeneous treatment effects (HTEs) using real-world data (RWD) in cancer. This work aims to assist clinicians in their decision‑making by recommending the best treatment for each patient based on their individual characteristics, paving the way for truly personalized therapeutic strategies in oncology.

You will be involved in:

• Conducting a literature review on existing methods and libraries for HTE modelling.
• Preparing multimodal real-world datasets for predictive modelling purposes.
• Training and validating machine learning models for HTE modelling on RWD in oncology.
• Integrating the code for these selected models into the SOPHiA Multimodal Factory.
• Presenting your findings and results to the team.

What you will learn:

• Specialize in machine learning techniques applied to oncology research.
• Gain hands‑on experience analysing and managing real‑world multimodal data sets.
• Develop expertise in presenting and communicating predictive analysis results.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams in a dynamic and innovative environment.

The experience you bring:

• Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Biostatistics, Applied Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
• Proficiency in Biostatistics, machine learning, and Python.
• Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
• A team player who collaborates well with others but can also work autonomously.
