A fast-scaling deep-tech startup is seeking a Polymer Chemist to develop innovative polymerisation strategies for next-generation, sustainable plastics. You will lead R&D plans and scale synthesis methods while ensuring recyclability of polymers. The ideal candidate has a PhD in polymer chemistry and hands-on experience with polycondensation processes. This role offers a unique opportunity to drive sustainability in the plastics industry, collaborate in a dynamic startup environment, and enjoy personal growth and well-being perks.
Join aevoloop, one of Europe’s fast-scaling deep-tech startups, and help build pioneering next-generation plastics.
Develop polymerisation strategies and a structured R&D plan to prepare the polymer formulations for aevoloop’s novel, polyester-based plastics. Target circular plastic products for a wide range of applications, including extrusion, injection moulding and film blowing to prepare semi-finished product prototypes for 3D printing filaments, fibers or packaging.
Design and optimize synthesis routes and scale-up to the 100+ kilogram range.
Check the principal recyclability of the polymers by developing depolymerisation procedures to lay the groundwork for selective recycling back to the monomers.
Lead and interpret analytical workstreams (DSC, TGA, NMR, SEC, rheology, MFI, viscosity, TAN, mechanical testing, weathering/hydrolytic stability) to define the ideal polymer formulation and achieve the desired mechanical and processing properties.
Work closely together with process engineers to translate R&D findings into robust, scalable processes.
Prepare technical reports and contribute for patent applications.
Advanced expertise in polymer chemistry, particularly polyester and polyamide that you built within a PhD in polymer chemistry, chemistry, or a related field. Industrial experience in this field is advantageous.
You have hands‑on experience in polycondensation (polyesters, polyamides) or polyurethane chemistry. Experience with biodegradable and/or circular polymers is advantageous.
You have deep familiarity with analytical and characterisation methods for polymers: DSC, TGA, NMR, SEC, rheology, mechanical testing (tensile testing, impact strength, HDT), TAN and weathering/hydrolytic stability assessments.
Excellent communication skills in English (written and spoken); German language skills are advantageous.
You bring a hands‑on mindset, structure your work efficiently, and collaborate seamlessly across disciplines – even under the dynamics of a fast‑paced start‑up environment.
We are aevoloop - a fast‑scaling deep‑tech startup pioneering next‑generation plastics for a circular economy. We re‑engineer polymers from the ground up to combine high performance with true circularity and biodegradability - turning plastic waste into valuable new materials.
Guided by our values Pioneering, Conscientious, Disruptive, Transparent and Contributive, we unite science with entrepreneurial execution to drive sustainable material innovation at scale.
