Job description
Working field:

The Technische Informationsbibliothek (TIB) - Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology - Program Area C, Research and Development, is looking to employ a Project manager in the context of the European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage Initiative (m/f/d) to work in Open Science Lab as of 1st January 2026. The position is limited until 31st December 2028 (end of the project term). The regular weekly working time is 39.8 hours (full-time). The position is generally suitable for part-time employment. The remuneration is based on pay scale group 13 TV-L.

Your challenge

The Open Science Lab (OSL) of the TIB is concerned with the development towards digital, open and collaborative science and supports scientific and cultural institutions by developing and testing new methods and software tools together with their communities. We are looking for a communicative and entrepreneurial person with a strong technical background to support and manage the activities of the OSL in the EU HORIZON-funded initiative to build metadata enrichment tools (ECHOLOT) for the European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage (ECCCH). ECHOLOT supports the adoption of the ECCCH by making the creation, reuse and dissemination of high-quality, semantically rich and interoperable cultural heritage data accessible to scholars and institutions of any size. The new end‑to‑end solution relies on knowledge graphs and open source software (notably MediaWiki suite) for the application of the FAIR data principles. Using a combination of AI‑, knowledge‑, and rule‑based approaches, ECHOLOT delivers hybrid curation workflows that efficiently combine automated processing and human input to perform multilingual and multimedia annotation, description generation and entity recognition. To ensure sustainability and impact, ECHOLOT includes business model innovation, training, and community engagement, as well as close collaboration with ECCCH stakeholders. The project includes 15 project partners across 11 European countries.

Your tasks include
  • Establishing efficient means of collaboration, communication, cost and time management, monitoring, and project evaluation; providing focus and direction to achieve project goals.
  • Ensuring continuous communication with the European Commission (EC); acting as the point of contact for partners in communications with the Commission.
  • Ensuring transparency in reporting by establishing appropriate report structures and procedures; coordinating the annual reporting to the EC, semi‑annual technical internal reporting, milestone reviews and midterm review.
  • Securing alignment with the ECCCH initiative and cooperation with other ECCCH‑related projects.
  • Developing and updating the project’s Data Management Plan (DMP), conducting quality assurance activities and performing risk analysis and mitigation.
  • Implementing the GEAR tool by the European Institute for Gender Equality and ensuring gender balance in decision‑making processes, in compliance with the EU Gender Equality Strategy 2020‑2025.
  • Ensuring project objectives, tasks, and milestones are delivered within set time, quality, and budget.
Requirements
Your profile
  • You hold a university degree (Master’s, university diploma, or equivalent), preferably in computer science, digital humanities, information and/or library science, or a related discipline.
  • You have relevant professional experience in research (e.g. a PhD) or have gained substantial experience in science and research project management.
  • You have in‑depth knowledge of project management methods and agile frameworks.
  • Experience and confidence in using research‑related IT applications.
  • Familiarity with the information and service landscape in the field of cultural heritage and/or research data management.
  • You are a strong communicator and team player with a pronounced service mindset, a service‑oriented attitude and organisational skills.
  • You are proactive, flexible and able to work independently and responsibly.
  • You have excellent written and spoken English skills.
Desirable additions to your profile
  • Enthusiasm for technical and scientific topics with strong practical relevance for the cultural heritage and research data management communities.
  • Interest in collaborating with domain specialist communities, understanding their needs and translating these requirements into high‑quality digital services.
  • Proven experience in planning and implementing tasks in the field of public relations or science communication (including social media).
  • Experience with the Wikiverse (Wikidata, Wikibase, MediaWiki) for collaborative knowledge management, and with Git‑based systems for collaborative code development.
  • Experience in open source software development and/or community management.
  • Experience in remote‑ and cross‑location project work.
  • You have good written and spoken German skills.
