Whether you’re striking deals on electronic gas trading platforms like EEX Spot, ICE ENDEX, CEGH, POLPX, GME, GET Baltic and MIBGAS or sharpening your negotiation prowess in OTC trading via phone, every day will be a new challenge. And yes, sometimes this entails concluding transport contracts during non-standard hours or pinpointing and capitalizing on market spreads. But with challenge comes excitement.

About the role

• Physical spot gas trading on continuous electronic markets and OTC Trading with external counterparties.
• Commercial optimisation of RWEST’s gas portfolio across Europe on an intraday and partly day-ahead basis versus the spot and imbalance markets; real-time decision-making to utilise gas assets in accordance with their marginal costs.
• Detection of locational and time spread arbitrage opportunities considering all relevant restrictions (i.e. transport capacity) for both within-day and next gas day and booking of necessary capacities on the PRISMA capacity platform under time pressure.
• Nomination and Balancing Management for RWEST throughout Europe within critical deadlines and under time pressure in case of emergency.
• Keep in close contact with trading counterparties, suppliers, grid operators, industrial end-customers, production facilities as well as short-term gas traders in order to minimise losses in emergency situations like gas storage or gas field outages.
• Strongly liaise and cooperate with our partner Global Gas Operations locations London and Prague.
• Use and adapt Algorithmic Trading-Bots to generate profits jointly with Short-Term-portfolio Management as well as bring in new ideas and ideally develop them further by your own programming skills.

Job requirements and experience

• Academic level in e.g. natural-/data sciences, engineering, economics or comparable quantitative background.
• Ability to make quick and correct decisions and work under pressure of time and responsibility with a high level of commitment.
• Strong team player & excellent communicator with a high degree of personal commitment, motivation and the ability to work independently.
• Willingness to work shifts (full continuous three-shift operation).
• Fluent in English (verbal & written).

Advantageous, but not essential

• Experience in the energy sector or in any type of trading environment.
• Other language skills (e.g. Dutch, German).
• Advanced programming skills to expand our trading application libraries.
