Faculty of Biology invites applications for the Chair (W2) position in Functional Diversity and Evolution of Plants (with a tenure track to W3) to be filled at the next possible date with a six-year contract.

Following a successful tenure evaluation, the appointment to a permanent Chair (W3) is planned. The evaluation will consider research, teaching, knowledge transfer, and self-administration. The Chair will also manage TUD’s Botanical Garden and the Herbarium Dresden.

You will represent the subject in teaching and research, contribute to existing degree programs, and participate in their development and internationalization. Teaching in undergraduate programs will be in German. Your research could focus on:

  • Systematics, phylogeny, and phylogenomics of non-model plants
  • Adaptation strategies of plants to climate and habitat
  • Capturing diversity and traditional knowledge in the context of global change
  • Functional morphology, anatomy, and biomimetics

We expect collaboration with TUD’s Botanical Garden, other faculties, the Biotechnological Center (BIOTEC), the Center for Molecular Bioengineering (B CUBE), and external research institutions like the museums of the Senckenberg Society for Nature Research in Dresden and Görlitz. Active participation in interdisciplinary projects, initiatives like the Excellence Strategy, and academic self-administration is required.

Applicants should have an international scientific track record in the field, demonstrated by publications, networking, and teaching evaluations. Experience in autonomous teaching, securing third-party funding, and fulfilling the employment qualification requirements of § 59 of the Saxony Higher Education Act (SächsHSG) are necessary.
