Overview

Job Title: Tradesman / Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) L3

Department: Base Operations

Description: We are looking for a dual-skilled Tradesman / Level 3 Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO L3). This is a crucial role for a versatile trades professional who will also be the primary on-site safety and health officer. You will be responsible for both hands-on maintenance and the implementation of a comprehensive safety program, ensuring all work is done efficiently and, most importantly, safely.

Key Responsibilities

• Safety Program Leadership: Implement and maintain the project’s Accident Prevention Plan. Conduct daily safety inspections and audits to identify and correct potential hazards.
• Trade Skills Application: Perform a wide range of maintenance and repair tasks across multiple trades, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry, as needed.
• Safety Training: Lead daily safety briefings, toolbox talks, and other training sessions for all personnel to ensure full compliance with safety protocols.
• Compliance & Reporting: Act as the primary point of contact for all site safety matters. Ensure the site is compliant with OSHA standards and all other federal, state, and local safety regulations.
• Incident Management: Investigate all accidents, injuries, and near-misses. Document findings, recommend corrective actions, and submit all necessary reports to management.
• Record Keeping: Maintain meticulous records of all safety-related activities, including training, inspections, and incident reports.

Desired Qualifications

• Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A degree or certification from a vocational program or technical school in a skilled trade is a significant plus.
• Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in a skilled trade, with a proven background in maintenance and repair. At least 3 years of experience in a dedicated safety role is also required.
• Technical Skills: Broad knowledge across multiple trades (e.g., electrical, mechanical, structural). Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA 1926 Construction standards and EM 385-1-1 requirements.
• Leadership: Exceptional communication, organizational, and leadership skills. You must be able to effectively enforce safety rules while maintaining a collaborative working environment.
• Certification: A valid driver’s license is required. An OSHA 30-hour Construction or General Industry certification is required, along with proof of an L3-level safety course completion.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
• Requires the ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, and work in various positions for extended periods.
• Must be able to work in diverse conditions, including exposure to loud noise, dust, fumes, and confined spaces.
