Job Title: Tradesman / Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) L3

Department: Base Operations

Job Summary

We are looking for a dual‑skilled Tradesman / Level 3 Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO L3). This is a crucial role for a versatile trades professional who will also be the primary on‑site safety and health officer. You will be responsible for both hands‑on maintenance and the implementation of a comprehensive safety program, ensuring all work is done efficiently and, most importantly, safely.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement and maintain the project's Accident Prevention Plan.
• Conduct daily safety inspections and audits to identify and correct potential hazards.
• Perform a wide range of maintenance and repair tasks across multiple trades, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry, as needed.
• Lead daily safety briefings, toolbox talks, and other training sessions for all personnel.
• Act as the primary point of contact for all site safety matters and ensure compliance with OSHA standards and all other federal, state, and local safety regulations.
• Investigate accidents, injuries, and near‑misses; document findings, recommend corrective actions, and submit reports to management.
• Maintain meticulous records of all safety‑related activities, including training, inspections, and incident reports.

Desired Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; a degree or certification from a vocational program or technical school in a skilled trade is a significant plus.
• Experience: Minimum 5 years in a skilled trade with a proven background in maintenance and repair, and at least 3 years in a dedicated safety role.
• Technical Skills: Broad knowledge across multiple trades (electrical, mechanical, structural) and comprehensive knowledge of OSHA 1926 Construction standards and EM 385‑1‑1 requirements.
• Leadership: Exceptional communication, organizational, and leadership skills; ability to enforce safety rules while maintaining a collaborative working environment.
• Certification: Valid driver’s license required; OSHA 30‑hour Construction or General Industry certification and proof of an L3‑level safety course completion.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, and work in various positions for extended periods.
• Ability to work in diverse conditions including exposure to loud noise, dust, fumes, and confined spaces.

Special Qualifications / Requirements

• Must be able to successfully pass a federal, state, or local government’s background investigation as required.
