Overview

Job Title: General Maintenance Worker / Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) L3

Department: Base Operations

We are seeking a versatile and safety-focused individual for the dual role of General Maintenance Worker and Level 3 Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO L3). This position is suitable for a skilled maintenance professional who is also committed to ensuring a safe and compliant work environment. You will be responsible for a wide range of maintenance tasks while serving as the primary on-site safety officer, enforcing protocols and leading a culture of safety.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintenance & Upkeep: Perform a broad range of general maintenance duties, including basic plumbing, electrical, and carpentry tasks. Ensure all base facilities and grounds are well-maintained and in good working order.
• Safety Program Implementation: Act as the primary on-site safety representative, implementing and maintaining the project’s Accident Prevention Plan.
• Safety Inspections: Conduct daily safety inspections and audits to identify and mitigate potential hazards. Report findings and ensure all deficiencies are corrected promptly.
• Safety Training: Lead daily safety briefings, toolbox talks, and other training sessions for all personnel, ensuring everyone understands and follows safety protocols.
• Compliance & Reporting: Ensure the site is compliant with OSHA standards and other federal, state, and local safety regulations. Document and report all safety-related activities and incidents.
• Incident Management: Investigate all accidents, injuries, and near-misses. Document findings, recommend corrective actions, and submit all necessary reports to management.

Desired Qualifications

• Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in a general maintenance or similar role. At least 3 years of experience in a dedicated safety-related role is also required.
• Technical Skills: Proven ability to use a variety of hand and power tools. Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA 1926 Construction standards and EM 385-1-1 requirements.
• Leadership: Excellent communication, organizational, and training skills. The ability to effectively enforce safety rules while collaborating with the team.
• Certification: A valid driver's license is required. An OSHA 30-hour Construction or General Industry certification is required, along with proof of an L3-level safety course completion.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
• Requires the ability to stand, walk, climb, and stoop for extended periods.
• Must be able to work in various conditions, including exposure to loud noise, dust, fumes, and all types of weather.

Special Qualifications/Other Requirements

• Must be able to successfully pass, as required, a federal, state, or local government background investigation.
