Job summary

ESMT Berlin invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher (gn) to join the European Expectations Center, led by Professor Michael Weber, PhD, and sponsored by the Humboldt Professorship. The position is full-time (40 hrs/week) for 3 years, renewable once for up to 6 years, starting July 2027. We seek a Ph.D.

in economics, finance, or a related field with strong research skills, independent work, and fluency in English. German knowledge is advantageous but not required.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in economics, finance, or a related field by the start date.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct independent empirical and/or theoretical research on the formation and role of subjective beliefs in economic decision-making.
• Experience with methods for working with unstructured data.
• Strong proficiency in statistical analysis.
• Prior experience running information-provision experiments embedded in surveys is a plus.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of German is advantageous but not required.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the Centers internationally visible research agenda.
• Conduct independent research in the areas of belief formation in macroeconomics and finance.
• Supervise, mentor, and coordinate pre-doctoral research assistants.
• Actively participate in the strategic development of the research program.
• Present research findings at national and international conferences.
• Contribute to the preparation of grant applications.
• No teaching obligations.
