Global Lead Counsel - Data Privacy, Regulatory Affairs & Processes

This Position reports to: Lead Counsel

Your role and responsibilities: As Global Lead Counsel - Data Privacy, Regulatory Affairs & Processes, you will be a critical member of the Legal & Integrity function, serving as Data Protection Officer for the ABB Robotics business, managing the Data Privacy program and other core integrity processes, including anti‑bribery and corruption framework, trade compliance & conflicts of interest. Acting as a recognized subject matter expert, with deep domain expertise, you will provide pragmatic and practical advice & counsel to the business on integrity risk domain areas, manage and evolve processes to ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and drive process improvements to foster our high performance, high integrity culture.

You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Act as subject matter expert for core integrity risk areas (ABAC, conflicts of interest, trade compliance & sanctions, human rights, antitrust, data privacy), providing strategic legal advice, risk assessments, managing external counsel, and supporting regulatory investigations, audits, remediation, and engagement with authorities and auditors.
  • Own and manage (under supervision of the Head of Integrity & Regulatory Affairs) the Anti‑Bribery & Corruption framework and related policies, including COI, gifts, travel & hospitality, donations & sponsorships, Global Trade policies, and Third‑Party & Tender Risk Management to mitigate fraud, sanctions, and integrity risks.
  • Lead and contribute to training, communications, approver communities, and user‑friendly guidance; monitor regulatory trends and enforcement actions; develop, maintain, and continuously improve compliance policies, procedures, and regulatory risk frameworks in partnership with business stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Internal Audit, Internal Controls, and Integrity teams to design, assess, and test compliance controls; champion technology and automation to enhance monitoring and efficiency; coordinate integrity‑related ESG reporting; and optimize outside counsel spend.
  • Act as Data Protection Officer for ABB Robotics (including Germany or managing an outsourced DPO), overseeing the global data privacy portfolio: Records of Processing, DPIAs/TIAs, DSARs, DPAs, privacy notices and consents, breach management, cross-border data transfers, privacy tools, and global networks of functional and country privacy leads.

Qualifications for the role:

  • Qualified lawyer with 10+ years of experience, ideally a mix between private practice at a reputable law firm and in‑house experience.
  • Deep expertise in regulatory risk & compliance program management, including solid experience in data privacy laws and management, anti‑bribery and corruption laws, trade compliance and anti‑trust matters.
  • Proven track record of senior‑level legal and compliance decision‑making, complemented by strong leadership capabilities and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Extensive experience in developing, implementing, and embedding risk‑based compliance frameworks and policies across complex organizational environments.
  • Proficient in overseeing and managing external legal counsel to optimize legal support and risk mitigation.
  • High integrity and with the capacity to make pragmatic, well‑informed decisions under pressure.
  • Fluent in English, with additional key languages considered an asset (specifically Mandarin, German, Swedish or Spanish); sector experience in Robotics is a plus but not essential.
