Job summary

Binary Butterfly seeks a DevOps-Platform Engineer to ensure the reliability and security of the bill.bo platform in a hybrid Berlin/work setup. You will deploy and debug applications, develop Ansible collections, and harden Linux systems while collaborating with the development team to improve CI/CD and observability.

Qualifications

• Several years of production Linux administration (Debian/Ubuntu), with networking and hardening.
• Solid experience with Ansible, Docker, Docker Compose and reverse proxies.
• Experience with relational databases (MariaDB/MySQL) and Git workflows.
• Strong Python skills; able to read Flask code and trace root causes.
• Experience debugging production web apps (HTTP/REST/SQL) and queues.
• Excellent communication; fluent English; German at least B2; willing to hybrid travel.

We are looking for someone with solid know-how in Linux systems, automation and operations, attention to detail, and the mindset to understand infrastructure as software. You ensure that the bill.bo platform and related software run reliably, securely and transparently, and provide the development team with a dependable foundation for delivering independently. Your work does not stop at the container boundary: you also look inside our applications, deploy them and debug them when something goes wrong in operation.

You develop our Ansible Collections and automate what is still done manually today. You operate, harden and update servers and infrastructure services, and ensure reliable, tested backups. You expand monitoring, logging and alerting so that we can spot problems early and understand them quickly. You work with the development team to shape CI/CD and deploy our applications, including database migrations and clean rollbacks. You debug applications in production: from logs, metrics and Sentry through containers, databases and queues to Python code, including when there are performance issues. Together with the development team, you ensure that applications are built to be operable: with useful logging, health checks and clear configuration. You take responsibility during incidents, identify sustainable improvements and keep security and compliance in mind — especially important in the payment environment. You contribute to the Kubernetes evaluation and assess whether and how it fits our platform. You document infrastructure and processes and enable colleagues to work confidently with them.

Several years of experience administering Linux systems (Debian/Ubuntu) in production, including networking, firewalls and system hardening. Solid experience with Ansible, Docker, Docker Compose and reverse proxies. Experience operating relational databases (MariaDB/MySQL), as well as with Git, merge requests and CI/CD. Solid Python skills: you can read and understand our Flask code and trace errors to their root cause. Experience debugging web applications in production: HTTP, REST APIs, SQL, workers and message queues. Attention to detail, a strong sense of responsibility, a cool head when things get hectic, and clarity in communication and documentation. You are comfortable addressing technical questions from non-technical people — for example, from support, project management or partners: you listen, ask questions and translate their concerns into technical requirements, targeted troubleshooting and concrete next steps. Very good English (working language), German at least B2. Willingness to collaborate in a hybrid setup (Ruhr area or Berlin) and to travel within Germany (travel expenses will be covered).
