Overview

Summary About the Position: Serves as the senior Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) for the Department of Pathology Clinical Chemistry Section providing emergency, routine, and reference laboratory testing services. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.

Responsibilities
  • Establishes and monitors quality control program for routine, specialized, and unusual testing within the Clinical Chemistry section.
  • Oversees the operation of and training on high-complexity instrumentation used in the laboratory.
  • Ensures accuracy, reproducibility, and quality control of laboratory procedures.
  • Maintains the quality assurance program with the Core Lab Section.
  • Trains personnel and evaluates competency assessments for all testing personnel.
  • Works with supply technician and COR to ensure adequate levels of supplies are maintained.

  • This position requires Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • This position is required to be credentialed through the Hospital Credentials Committee as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in accordance with DHA and other applicable regulations and directives.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) subject to pre-employment drug test and random drug testing.
  • This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations.
  • This position has a mandatory annual seasonal influenza immunization requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations in accordance with Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI) 6205.02.
  • This position may require you to be on-call on a rotational basis, responding to emergency calls at times beyond the normal duty day.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Shifts may be rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • This position requires Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel approximately up to 5% of the time away from your permanent duty station.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirements
  • Clinical Laboratory Scientist:
    • A Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree from a regionally accredited college/university including courses in biological science, chemistry and mathematics, AND successful completion of a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist program accredited by NAACLS or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
    • OR a full 4-year course of study with 12 months in a college or hospital-based medical technology program approved by a recognized accrediting organization (certificate programs or the last 1-2 years of a 4-year program).
    • OR a bachelor’s or higher degree with specified science coursework and five years of full-time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, microbiology, Immunology and Urinalysis/Body Fluids, with certification/licensure as a medical technologist (generalist) by a recognized credentialing agency or state license.
Evaluation and Education

The major areas are microbiology, clinical chemistry, hematology, and immunohematology. Related fields include physiology, anatomy, molecular biology, cell biology, embryology, pathology, genetics, pharmacology, histology, cytology, and related disciplines. Foreign education must be evaluated for equivalence if used to meet requirements.

Specialized Experience

One year of specialized experience which includes performing testing in a clinical chemistry laboratory, evaluating quality control in a clinical laboratory, interpreting laboratory results, and maintaining clinical laboratory equipment.
